it’s the most wonderful time of the year

I have always loved shopping for school supplies. The advent of a new school year meant new binders, notebooks, and a bumper crop of #2 pencils (preferably mechanical, although I do love a freshly sharpened Dixon Ticonderoga). As an adult, my professional life affords me the opportunity/small pleasure of ordering new office supplies as frequently as I wish. And while I don’t mind waiting until the next business day to receive manila folders or staple removers, I prefer to pick out my own pens in person.

Bic for women, Blonde Seeking Ambition

Hmm… a pen specifically for women. Have I been doing it wrong all these years?!

It was actually the desperate, can’t-wait-until-tomorrow need for mousepads that brought me to Staples on a beautiful morning last week. As I happily pushed my cart through the aisles, I couldn’t help but notice the large amount of sulking, miserable children. I know I can’t be the only child who enjoyed shopping for school supplies… right? Hello? Is this thing on?
Whenever I feel the urge to start a new writing project, there’s no better kickstarter than a brand-new notebook (college ruled, thank you very much) and a pencil with an unsullied eraser. Although, maybe those “Bic for Her” pens are worth a second look…

I enjoyed picking out school supplies every year. This year, I felt a pang of jealousy as I walked down the back to school supplies aisles. Those lucky kids! There is nothing better than a college ruled brand-new notebook. It screams of opportunity, ideas, and ambition to create.

It really does! I say we take advantage of the sales and get new notebooks just for the hell of it 🙂

What's on your mind?
